Thamo Hurly - Turkish Spindle Spinning

Spindle spinning in its various forms has been around for thousands of years. Turkish spindles are among my favourite because they are easily portable and versatile. In this workshop we will start with Turkish Spindle anatomy, how to create a leader and how to spin singles. Towards the end of the class we’ll go over what to do with your singles and how to finish your yarn so it’s ready for knitting, crocheting or weaving. To Participate during the workshop you’ll need: a Turkish spindle and some fibre that’s ready to spin (a braid or rolags are great to start with)

  • Susie B - Inkle Weaving Workshop

    Join Susie B. For a two hour session weaving on an Inkle floor loom. These looms will be warped and ready to weave on. During this session Susie will demonstrate how to make your own heddles and how to warp a loom for Inkle weaving. You will take home the band you have woven. Susie will also show you several uses for your bands. The options are endless. Susie has been weaving Inkle for the past 9 years. This class is limited to 5 students.

  • Marisa Veri - Whimsical Weaving

    Discover the joy of creating your own woven masterpiece in our Whimsical Weaving class. Unleash your creativity, one knot at a time. Starting with the basics of warping your mini-loom Marisa, from Pretty Little Yarns Ltd., will then teach you how to work plain weave, twill weave, RYA knots, soumak knots, and sinna knots!

    You will learn: By the end of the class, you will be well on your way to having your very own little tapestry and with all the tools needed to make more!

  • Gabriela Dudas - Dip and Slip

    Dip and Slip stitches are all the rage right now, not difficult and alot of fun to do! Let's have some fun while practicing these stitches and talk about where to use them.

    You'll learn: butterfly stitch, the leaf stitch, the double and triple dip stitch, the star stitch, the quilted stitch and the woven relief.

    Gabriela Dudas - Mosaic Knitting

    Barbara G. Walker first coined the term "Mosaic Knitting" and invented over 100 mosaic patterns in the 70's. For beginners and expeienced knitters alike, colourwork knitting without learning an entirely new and complicated technique.

    Mosaic knitting is a meathod of colourwork that involves two simple techniques - slipping stitches and changing colours between rows.

  • Marisa Veri - Felting for Fall

    As the summer winds down autumn feels like it is just around the corner, and what better way to prepare than by needle-felting yourself a nifty little fall garland. In this class, we will safely stab all of the wool to create felted leaves, gourds, mushrooms, pumpkins, or even jack-o-lanterns and thread them onto string ready to hang in your home.

    Guided by Marisa of Pretty Little Yarns Ltd, you'll learn to felt both flat and 3D shapes, when to use core wool, and how to layer colours to transform fluffy wool fibers into each one of your little creations. The magic truly unfolds as you assemble your felted creations into glorious garlands. Whether you're a seasoned crafter, a complete beginner, or somewhere in between, this class is designed for anyone who wants to explore needle felting.

    By the end of the class, you'll be well on your way in your creation and have the confidence to continue needle felting beyond the classroom.

    Thamo Hurly - Afterthought Everything Socks

    Sock weight tubes cranked on a Circular Sock Machine are all the rage. Being able to turn a long tube into a pair of socks is more simple that you might think! Also, hand knitting a big long tube can be a great vacation project. When you’re back home, with all your tools and a little focused time, you can turn your vacay tube into a pair of socks. In this class we’ll learn how to take a sock tube and add toes, heels and cuffs. We’ll cover how to measure and cut in for our afterthought heels, how to add on our toes and cuffs without losing a stitch and my favourite bind-off for a bottom-up cuff.

    Supplies to Bring:

  • A sock tube (machine or hand knit)
  • Appropriate sized needles for your tube (machine knit I often use 2 or 2.25mm) If you like to magic loop you'll need a nice long cord OR you can bring a set of double pointed needles
  • Stitch markers
  • Small, sharp scissors
  • Tape measure

    Susie B - Card and Tablet Weaving

    Join Susie B for a few hours exploring how to card weave also known as tablet weaving. You will be weaving on a warped loom, creating a darling Christmas ribbon. This class is limited to 5 students.

    During this session Susie will demonstrate how to warp a loom for tablet weaving. You will take home the band you have woven. More importantly you will see several options for using these bands.

    Come learn the art of embroidering your knits, with no prior experience required! In this hands-on session, Julie Crawford (Knitted Bliss Stitching) will guide you through every step to stitching a beautiful flower on a knit. Whether you bring a cozy sweater, a soft scarf, a swatch, or any knitted item of your choice, you'll leave with a beautifully personalized creation. Come discover the joy of combining knitting and embroidery in a friendly, supportive atmosphere.

    Sarah Dawn - Accessibility, Diversity and Inclusion in Fibre Arts

    Think that crafting isn't for you, that you don't belong in the fibre arts world? Well, I'm asking you to think again.

    This lecture style class will cover Diversity and Inclusion in the fibre arts, with the focus on LGBTQIA+ and Disables crafters. The class will cover accessible pattern design, physical and community accessibility and inclusion, issues around garment sizing, alternate knitting and crochet toos, and more.

    This class with come with two accessible pattersn (a knitting pattern and a crochet pattern) that the student can download
